Shap to Orton - August 7th

We had a nice, easy, pleasant walk today - 8.1 miles with only 1,083 feet of elevation gain. Our C2C path is now traversing part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park via gravel and grassy paths, through sheep and cow pastures (with docile sheep and cows who pay us no mind), and past hillsides of heather not quite yet in full bloom. The countryside is quintessentially English, reminding me of the show All Creatures Great and Small. I almost feel like I've been transported back in time.

We’re spending the night in the small village of Orton, which boasts one hotel, a church that was built in 1293 (will visit it tomorrow before starting our walk), the village store, a post office and a chocolate factory. Rich is in seventh heaven!

Enjoying a hearty English breakfast (on fine china even)
before our walk this morning

Pam climbing through a stone wall
into yet another cow pasture

We're still encountering wet, boggy
paths, which I think will be a
condition throughout this walk

Field of heather just starting to bloom

Traipsing through fields of green
Almost to our destination
