Richmond to Ingleby Cross via Danby Wiske - August 12th
Today’s walk was a combination of two shorter routes: Richmond to Danby Wiske (13.5 miles) and Danby Wiske to Ingleby Cross (8.9 miles). With the few wrong turns we made along the way, rather than the official 22.4 miles, final mileage was closer to 24. The only saving grace with today’s walk was that it was flat.
We left the Yorkshire Dales and its picturesque Swale valley behind after @ 7 miles and set out across open country toward the more remote North Yorkshire Moors. The countryside was much the same as the last few days with the exception that we’re now starting to see some crop fields (corn, wheat) and not just pastures.
We had a heavy rainstorm this morning, but luckily by the time we stopped at a campground in Danby Wiske for lunch, the rain had stopped and our clothes quickly dried. When we finally walked into Ingleby Cross at @ 5:30 pm, we were all pretty tired and glad to be done for the day.
We now have 4 more days with @ 51 miles to cover before reaching our final destination of Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea!
