Laundromats have been few and far between in the small towns and villages we’ve been passing through. Even Richmond, which is the largest town on the C2C trail, doesn’t have a laundromat. However, the innkeeper at our lodging tonight will do laundry for us if we get it there by 3:15 pm.
So….today was ladies’ day again on the trail as Rich and Gary took on the task of getting our laundry to Richmond in time. We only had a 10.5 mile walk, but with the types of trail conditions we’ve encountered so far, our pace has been exceedingly slow at times. We were all desperate enough for clean clothes that we didn’t want to chance not getting laundry done today. It’s been cool and damp enough that hand washed clothes haven’t been drying overnight.
We set out from Reeth at 8:00 am (before breakfast) and, as luck would have it, encountered relatively easy walking conditions on paved roads and through grassy fields and pastures. We had some uphill stretches, but nothing especially steep. The scenery was much the same as it has been the last few days: river views, farm pastures and some forests in the distance. We stopped to take a few pictures, but other than that, we kept moving forward and reached Richmond @ 12:30 pm.
This is the first day we’ve finished walking early enough that we’ve had time to explore the town. Richmond is a charming (but busy) town with its very own 11th century castle and a bustling market square. We were so glad we had time to sightsee, rest and relax (and get our laundry done).
