Clay Bank Top to Blakey Ridge - August 14th
Today’s route from Clay Bank Top to Blakey Ridge was remarkably unremarkable, perhaps because we spent the entirety of the 8.8 mile walk in the clouds with visibility no more than 50 feet at best. It was raining lightly when we left our hotel in Great Broughton for the shuttle ride to Clay Bank Top and didn’t stop raining until we were @ 6 or 7 miles into the walk.
Our route started with an immediate climb to the top of Urra Moor. Once we crested the top, the path was flat until the last short uphill climb to Blakey Ridge. We arrived at The Lion Inn, our lodging for the night, @ lunchtime and had a warming bowl of soup while waiting for our room to be cleaned. The Lion Inn was built in the 16th century and still retains an old-world charm with its dark time-worn beams and open fires burning in the ancient fireplaces.
Two days of walking left. Tomorrow is a downhill 9.3 mile walk, while our final day of walking will be a grueling 19.5 miles! Almost to the end.
